Stas Godeliauskas

Assistant Packhouse Manager

Location: Tyholland, Co. Monaghan, Ireland

When did you start with Monaghan?

I joined Monaghan in 2005 as a General Operative.

What other jobs have you done with Monaghan?

After 12 months I was promoted to Tyholland Intake Supervisor – where I had to build my team from scratch in a short period of time and put a working structure in place. It was really very good experience for me and I have gained a lot from this position. I worked as Intake Supervisor for 3 years.

In 2009 I applied for a Duty Manager position and was successful. My main responsibilities included looking after 34-65 people each day per shift, with one person reporting directly to me. In 2012 the team was restructured and I applied for the Team Shift Running Manager position and now I have 40 direct reports as well as other responsibilities during my shift. I work a rolling shift, with two days off and four nights on. I have to deal with day-to-day problems that occur during day/night duties, react to them and make good decisions in extremely short periods of time. I have to say that this is really hard work, and you need to put all your energy and resources into it and forget your own worries for a while.

What do you like best about working at Monaghan?

From time to time I have to travel around new sites and implement new systems.

This is real challenge for myself and involves team work across all departments, as we all know when you start something new – you can expect a lot of problems.

Sometimes it looks impossible, but if you work hard and everyone puts their heads together you can reach your target, and what looked impossible will become possible.

During all these travels I have met a lot of new and great people – each of them has a different vision of life, have their own history, traditions and culture. This is really a very exciting time where you can find something new in every step. I think Monaghan is a great place for people who love opportunities and are not afraid of challenges. Everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate their best in Monaghan.

What’s been your best experience at Monaghan?

I can say my best experience was my first day as a manager. That day I thought that the whole planet was looking at me and I was worried that I did not know the right decisions – I will never forget this day.

Another good experience was a few years ago when I had to travel with one of my colleagues to work in one of our sites. On our way back home, when we reached the airport it appeared that all flights were cancelled, so after few calls we had to go back to the site where we were working. After a few hours, we went to the airport again to try the evening flight home, with no success. All the flights were still cancelled. So we re-booked tickets for the morning flight and stayed in the airport hotel. On that evening it was my colleague's birthday, and we celebrated his birthday in the airport. This will probably be the only birthday that he’ll remember all his life!

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about joining Monaghan?

If you are a team worker, determined and self motivated,
If you are a hard worker who can – push a ROCK,
If you are ready for something new every day,
Then – come and join Monaghan, be one of US!!!
